Piano Lesson In Your Pocket!

Lesson one: Find the low keys and the high keys. Find the sets of two and three black keys on the piano.

Never too young to start

Think your child is too young to start learning an instrument? Think again. Numerous studies show, that playing an instrument is the best exercise for our brains, because it engages so many different areas of it simultaneously. That is why playing an instrument is one of the best things you can do to spark other learning, whether this is language, fine motor skills, math or confidence

What do you see?

Here are 3 simple activities for you and your child to do together. They can be done with toddlers or older. If you have a keyboard at home, you can use that, if not, you can print out this piano:

1: Find the deep keys (to the left) and make a big BEAR growl. See which of you can growl deeper! Find the high keys on the right and make a mouse-squeak. See which of you can squeak higher? Repeat a few times.

2: What are the two colors on the keys? Black and white. Do you see the black keys have a pattern? They go in a group of 2, then a group of 3. See if you can find all the groups of 2, starting from the bear going up to the mouse. End with a growl and a squeak!

3: All the white keys have a letter: A-B: -C-D-E-F and G. If your child knows the letters, try to find all the D’s. It is the key that is in the middle of the two black keys.

Can you find all the D’s? Start from the mouse and go down to the bear. Finish with a growl and a squeek! If you can print out the piano above, color all the D’s blue.
